Psalm 139:7-10

Butterflies, Corkscrew Swamp Preserve, AUG 2013

Where can I go from your spirit?
Or where can I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there;
if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.
If I take the wings of the morning
and settle at the farthest limits of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me fast
Psalm 139:7-10

Oh, the stubborn love of God.
In life we we think God's gone missing,
pain, loss, the suffering,
pile up questions, doubts, hostilities,
or that we are too smart
to believe in what the church,
our parents, our Sunday school teachers,
our Rabbis,
Have told us to be true.
No.
We have learned too much to believe
thinking, and falsely so, that science and faith
are incompatible, at war.
Then life helps us to unlearn.
And in our unlearning we see,
perhaps in ways unexpected,
and always in humility.
