Isaiah 41:1-4
Pickerel Weed, Corkscrew Swamp Preserve, Naples, FL, AUG 2013
Here is my servant, whom I uphold,
my chosen, in whom my soul delights;
I have put my spirit upon him;
he will bring forth justice to the nations.
He will not cry or lift up his voice,
or make it heard in the street;
a bruised reed he will not break,
and a dimly burning wick he will not quench;
he will faithfully bring forth justice.
He will not grow faint or be crushed
until he has established justice in the earth;
and the coastlands wait for his teaching.
Isaiah 42-1-4
God is biased towards justice.
The outcast, the most vulnerable, the poor, the oppressed,
these find favor with God, who has always stood with them;
Have not God's prophets cried out, accused, called to judgment those responsible? Those who oppress? Those who exploit?
Is not the most profound mark of the early church its embodiment of God's love as those who have give to those in need so that none suffer? So that the household of God more closely reflects the Kingdom to come, heralded by Christ, and thus a Kingdom to which we are called to strive and embody in our present?
